What did I think after trying Vanna’s Choice for the first time? Well, Vanna’s Choice is a yarn I’ve seen on the shelves since I started crocheting and haven’t really been too interested in picking any up. That is until I got the opportunity to test knit The Partridge Pullover for Janine at Knitsnknots. The original pattern was made using Vanna’s Choice and I decided that this was the perfect opportunity to try something new!
Vanna’s Choice solid is a worsted weight 100% acrylic yarn containing 170 yds and 100 grams of yarn. The regular price for this yarn from the Lionbrand website is 4.99, which breaks down to about three cents a yard. Which I think is a bit much for an acrylic yarn but there are typically many different coupons online and in big box stores that significantly reduce this price.
The color I chose to work with was honey and let me tell you it is definitely one of the richest golden honey colors I have ever worked with! I am no stranger to the mustard/gold family of yarns and I was definitely impressed by the color and the way it worked up in my project. As far as texture goes I found that Vanna’s Choice (or at least the skeins I received) is on the side of scratchier acrylics. But the scratchiness I felt was not one that felt like a cheap acrylic but more like a wooly scratchiness, while this does not contain any wool I would describe it as a “wooly acrylic” if I had to give it a name.
Would I recommend this yarn? Yes, I would recommend Vanna’s Choice especially if you are looking for a sturdier acrylic that works well for garments and has the same vibe as a wool blend yarn. I enjoyed working with the yarn on my needles and did not notice any pilling as I worked with it. I have yet to wear or wash my finished sweater but will be sure to update this post if it turns out that there is severe pilling occurring on the fabric created.
